Suspected Stalker Questioned: 'However What If I Am Madeleine?'
A individual indicted with harassing Kate McCann apparently left her a phone message which posed: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who a jury heard has persistently declared she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial charged with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, the tribunal heard phone records and information recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test over the past two years.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most covered missing child cases and is still open.
'I Don't Want Money'
A separate recorded message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm fat and plain like Madeleine was, but I believe what I believe."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording said: "Imagine there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? What then? Isn't that important for you?"
"I don't want money, I possess a living here in Poland, I only wish to know," the message continued.
The jury was informed that via electronic messages, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a biological test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, a data specialist with the police force who gathered the data, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also communicated with close associates of the McCanns, based on the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my point."
The court heard Mrs Spragg established a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' home in the county in December 2024.
Call logs showed Mrs Spragg had reached out using messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be treated respectfully in the time preceding the visit to Rothley, the county, in that winter.
The court learned communications between the two accused, in November 2024, discussing attempting to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from utensils at a eating establishment.
"We must make a stand," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the visit to their residence, Mrs Spragg sent a text which stated: "We're currently sat near the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark similar to detectives. I had hoped to do this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The trial proceeds.
