Preview this Remastered Classic Adventure: This Complimentary Trial for DQ7 Reimagined Arrives Shortly.

Fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined don't need to wait much longer. An exciting playable preview is set to release on Jan. 7, offering a sizable look into the game's opening hours. Critically, all advancement made within this demo will be able to be carried over directly into the full game upon its February debut.

More Than a Simple Re-release: The Thorough Reimagining

This project constitutes a from-scratch reimagining of the iconic year 2000 RPG, originally known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct step away from recent Dragon Quest remakes, like the recently released HD-2D versions, this remake utilizes a unique three-dimensional aesthetic. The world have been crafted to look like intricate dioramas, with protagonists having a whimsical stylized look.

"Even with the 3DS remake, the story was remained quite long. So we reached a conclusion that we wanted to condense the story, [and] craft an experience for modern gamers."

Significant Gameplay Changes & Modernizations

The development team has added several changes to refresh the original experience. Among these are:

  • Streamlined Overworld Encounters: Similar to contemporary RPGs, low-level monsters can now be dispatched instantly on the exploration screen without initiating a separate traditional battle screen.
  • Variable Combat Speed: Gamers have the option to speed up combat animations to rapidly get past simpler encounters.
  • Expanded Job System: One brand new job class was introduced for this reimagining. Furthermore, party members gain the option to master a second job, significantly expanding strategic possibilities.

Such changes are designed to address a key the 2000 game's common criticisms: its considerable length. That initial storyline was known to take over 100 hours to complete. This new version has been specifically designed to improve pacing and reduce perceived repetition.

Save the Calendars: Demo & Full Launch Details

Interested players can begin exploring the reimagined world of Dragon Quest VII for themselves when the complimentary trial becomes available on Wednesday, January 7th. The full game, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, is then scheduled to arrive on February 5, 2026. The title will be available on a wide selection of systems, such as Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X.
