Peak Pizza? Domino's Leader Exits After Pivot Towards Fried Chicken.

A boss of Domino's Pizza Group who suggested the UK might have hit peak pizza while diversifying the franchise into chicken products has been removed after conflicts with its directors.

Executive Shake-Up

The former CEO is leaving after only 24 months in leadership, and will be succeeded on an acting basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Frampton, while the pizza giant searches for a new leader.

The outgoing executive, who worked for Domino's for over 20 years, had aimed to shift the UK's leading pizza food delivery firm towards chicken offerings, stating recently there was not “significant expansion” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He said chicken was the most rapidly expanding protein in the globe.

Board Disagreements

Reports indicate that there was disagreement between the CEO and the board over his approach and direction, although Domino's official statement said he was leaving “as a joint decision”.

Recent Product Launch

In September, Domino's launched its chicken-focused brand – which Rennie described as a “major strategic shift” for the company – and is testing it in select stores in the north-west of England and the province.

While the firm is still intending to launch it across its almost 1,400 stores in 2026 as scheduled, it considers fried chicken as a supplement for its main pizza offerings.

Board Statement

The Domino's chair, the Domino's chair, said: “We are confident that there are a series of prospects to enhance value and value creation in Domino's core business. We are prioritizing identifying the suitable leader to direct the systematic rollout of that growth strategy.”

Market Challenges

Earlier this month, Domino's, which has 13 million customers in the British Isles, said sales fell by 1.5 percent in the latest quarter. In August, it warned that the takeaway market had “grown more challenging” as it blamed weaker consumer confidence in the run-up to the government announcement and rising wage costs for weaker-than-expected sales and a 15% drop in half-year profits.

Other pizza operators are also facing challenges. Pizza Hut announced the shutting of multiple locations a last month, after the business behind its British operations entered insolvency.

Wellness Initiatives

Adapting to market shifts towards better nutrition, Domino's has launched light options, such as its Thin & Crispy selection of bakes below 400 calories as well as plant-based and allergy-friendly pizzas. A large pepperoni pizza has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has over 2,100, while a individual has under 1,000 calories.

Acting Management

Nicola Frampton has been with Domino's since the recent past, and was formerly with the gaming group a well-known operator. It is thought that she is not seeking to take on the CEO position permanently.

She commented: “The company has a number of active development and efficiency programs that we will be focused on implementing at speed.”

She said these involved ongoing development on the organization's procurement system and new item creation, and its customer retention initiative.

The pizza chain is also without a long-term finance director until March 16, when Andy Andrea starts from the Irish cider and beer maker a well-known firm. In the meantime, Snow serves as interim finance chief.
