Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United only half a year following leading insulting songs aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year career with Leeds was ended through agreement in August.
Among Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead offensive chants about Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion party in April. Currently, the former England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to pull the team he loves out of the bottom places.
Past History Between the Striker & Wilder
The pair had history before Leeds moved up back to the Premier League the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won direct promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
All seems has been resolved with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford looking to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant spread widely in April. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.
Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke too and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Struggles
The forward made 18 appearances with Leeds United last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
