Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
