It has been confirmed that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Significant Return to Panem
The duo are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their cameos will probably be featured in a future-set scene, given that the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.
This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's story are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several notable actors in pivotal roles:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
