Dominant Aryna Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive season.
The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the entire year as the world number one, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka finished the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and earned a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She received almost eighty percent of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus after the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
