Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
